FIMA - Montreal International Art Festival

Since 1999, the FIMA has been uniting under the summer sun over 150 visual artists, painters, illustrators, photographs, sculptors, craftsmen and women displaying their works to the public on a one-kilometre stretch of the Ste-Catherine Street, downtown Montreal. Laying out their pieces in white tents decorated by themselves, they have the possibility to be seen by a great number of visitors.

Each space is clearly identified with the name of the artist. Visitors walk freely, approaching artists, looking at their work, some talking and asking questions, buying art works, and some just browsing around. They are in no stress, nor are the artists, in this relaxed atmosphere, friendly and convivial. The context is great for the public to meet artists on a personal level. And for the artists, it is a great opportunity to make contacts with public, and also gallery owners, collectors, buyers, as well as other artists from Montreal, Canada and from around the world.

In addition to the main exhibition, artistic performances and installation art will be scattered on the site in 2009.
